Caring About Customer Service Since 1983

Steve’s Auto Clinic (SAC) was originally launched by Steve Fischer as a small one-man service, repair and tuning shop in Vanderbijlpark, back in 1983. SAC then expanded its operation in 1987 to include a new exhaust shop that specialised in manufacturing and repairs, followed in 1989 by the establishment of a cylinder head remanufacturing and engineering division. In 1995 the business expanded some more by opening a second branch at Kyalami Business Park in Kyalami.

With this expansion came a new partner – Heinrich Lategan – who brought a wealth of engineering and race driving experience to the business. In 1996 a specialised diesel optimisation and tuning shop opened, and SAC became the sole importer and specialised fitment centre for a range of turbo chargers and intercoolers from Australia.

The establishment of branches in Cape Town and Bloemfontein followed in 1997 and thanks to its innovative franchising concept; SAC won the runner-up award that year in the SA Entrepreneur of the Year competition. Expansion continued when separate diesel and petrol shops opened their doors in Kyalami in 1998. SAC Manufacturing joined the support infrastructure in 1999 and SAC started developing and producing a unique range of products, including in-house developed intercoolers for the South African market. In 2000, because of strong indications that off-road and leisure vehicles were fast becoming a way of life for automotive consumers in South Africa, specialised cylinder head development for diesel vehicles followed.

The group formed the SAC Outdoor Experience and as a result it was decided to establish SAC Trucks, thereby allowing the owners of heavy commercial vehicles to benefit from SAC’s unsurpassed levels of service, technology and on-going research and development in the power enhancement arena. In 2001 SAC Trucks changed its name to SAC Commercial Parts, and another branch – SAC Engineering – was also established.

In 2015 the SAC Foundation shifted its focus to the service industry and is now considered to be a Service Specialist in this field, thanks to its decades of experience, hi-Tec workshops, highly trained staff, and the exceptional customer service SAC has to offer.

Since its inception in 1983, SAC has ten branches countrywide and it aims at spreading its fingers further to eventually include branches beyond our borders.
